ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (October 18, 2006) ' In
their last non-conference match of the regular season, the 21st
ranked Rollins men's soccer team fell to Flagler 2-1 Wednesday
night at Saints Field.' The Tars fell to 11-4 with the loss, and
the Saints improved to 9-5.
Boris Kalff put Flagler on the board with a free kick score in
the fifth minute.' He took the kick from just outside the penalty
area and knocked it past Rollins goalkeeper Dana Singer and inside
the left post.' The Tars tied it up in the 31st minute when Jacob
Deloach scored his second goal of the year off a Jon Gruenewald
cross.' Gruenewald had just entered the game when he collected the
ball on the right sideline, beat a defender off the dribble, and
made the successful cross for his team-leading 12th assist of the
year.' Jorgen Rosten scored the game-winner at the 84:28 mark on a
penalty kick.' Singer was unable to collect a cross from the right
side, and when a Flagler player approached the ball he jumped
towards the play, knocking over the Flagler attacker for the
foul.
The teams matched each other in shots throughout the game, with
both attempting eight in the first half and seven in the second
half for a total of 15.' The Tars attempted nine corner kicks
compared to five for their opponents.' Singer finished the game
with three saves for Rollins, and his Flagler counterpart Jordan
Holtz also saved three.
The Tars rested many of their starters with the last regular
season conference game approaching on Saturday, October 21.'
Rollins was without midfielder Leslie Osei and defender Eric
Vergati, who both have been integral to the team's success this
year.
Rollins will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. this weekend for a match
with ninth-ranked Lynn.' Fans can listen to the action live on www.RollinsSports.com.
