WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 28, 2006) ' Second
seed Barry defeated third seed Florida Tech 3-0 in Saturday's first
semifinal and will now play for the 2006 Sunshine State Conference
Tournament title. The Bucs will take on top seed and host Rollins
on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Winter Park for the crown.
Barry (10-6-1) cracked the scoreboard early as Patrick Miller
found Ryan Alexander streaking down the sideline who then lobed a
cross to the head of Henry Apaloo for the score. The goal was
Apaloo's 11th of the season. Florida Southern (6-9-3) then upped
the intensity, but was unable to find the equalizer in the first
half and went into the locker room down 1-0.
The Bucs then put the game away in the middle of the second half
as back-to-back goals by Serkan Seaner proved to be too much for
the Mocs. Sener's first score came in the 69th minute, finishing
off a pass from Miller. He notched his second goal 10 minutes
later, collecting a loose ball and firing it in from 18 yards out.
Fatigue then set in for Southern as they were playing their second
game in as many days.
Matt Ward played all 90 minutes between the posts for Florida
Southern, allowing three goals with no saves while his counterpart
from Barry, Chris Rich tallied the shutout with two saves.
