' The #8 Florida Southern Mocs rolled past the Rollins
Tars 3-1 (30-16, 34-32, 25-30, 30-14) on Wednesday evening at the
Warden Arena.
Rollins was led by
'Tar Athlete of the Week' outside hitter Piper Young. She tallied
19 kills, four aces, 18 digs and a block. Middle blocker Christina
Reinders added seven kills to the Tars offense.
Setter Lacey
Malarky totaled 39 assists and a notable 13 digs. Libero Kim Cline
had two aces and 14 digs defensively.
In the first game,
the Tars were unable to keep the pace of the #8 Mocs. Young had
three kills and five digs as Florida/>/> Southern routed
Rollins 30-16 in Game 1.
Young also powered
the offense in Game 2 with seven kills, one ace and five digs. Down
23-16 in the second game, the Tars surged back to 27-27. With kills
by Young, Reinders and Lorena Orlandini respectively, Rollins tied
the game at 32-32. Despite their enthusiastic effort, the
Tars'failed'to capture the final two points, committing two
consecutive errors.
In Game 3, Young
once again dominated with seven kills, one ace and six digs. The
Tars came out of the gate with a 5-1 lead over the Mocs. Leading
23-18, Rollins began to slip and the score quickly became 25-25.
Orlandini added a kill to make the score 26-25. With four
consecutive errors by the Mocs offense, the Tars won the third game
30-25.
In the final game
of the match, Florida/>/> Southern (24-3, 12-0) proved why
they are undefeated in the Sunshine State Conference. At 21-12, the
Mocs outside hitter Danielle Durham went on a huge run notching
eight kills and seven digs in Game 3 alone. Rollins was powerless
against Florida/>/> Southern in the fourth game losing
30-14.
Rollins (15-10,
4-6) will travel to Melbourne/>, Fla./>/> on Friday,
October'20 to take on the Florida Tech Panthers (2-23, 0-10) at
7:00 p.m.
