WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 14, 2006) '
Regulation and two overtime periods couldn't decide a winner as
Rollins and Florida Tech played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at
Barker Family Stadium. The tie moves the Tars' record to 10-3-2
overall and 3-1-2 in Sunshine State Conference play while the
Panthers are now 7-7-4 and 2-1-3 in the SSC.
Florida Tech got on the board first as Teresa Brantley dribbled
down the right sideline and sent a cross into the box, finding the
foot of Therese Svensson for the goal in the 32nd minute and 1-0
Panthers lead. Tech held the lead heading into halftime, holding
Rollins to two shots in the period while getting off five.
The Tars turned the tables in the second half and knotted the
score at 1-1 in the 70th minute as Jeri Ostuw, who had just entered
the game, took a shot from well outside the penalty box that sailed
past the keeper for a Rollins goal. Both teams manufactured good
chances in the waning minutes of regulation, but couldn't convert
and the match headed to an extra frame.
In the first overtime, Rollins had a good look at the goal as
Florida Tech was whistled for a foul just outside the penalty box,
but Alison Tradd's free kick was blocked by the Panthers' wall. In
the second OT, the Tars were on the attack, getting off four shots
and two corner kicks, but Tech keeper Melissa Pyles stopped them
all to keep the scored tied at the final horn.
Pyles played all 110 minutes in net for Florida Tech, stopping
six shots and allowing one goal. Stephanie Woelfel went wire to
wire for the Tars, allowing one goal and gathering four saves.
Rollins finished with a 15-12 advantage in shots and 3-2 lead in
corners.
Prior to the contest, Rollins seniors Ashley Hunsberger,
Francesca Nicoloso, Jacquelyn Parsons, Lindsay Taylor and Alison
Tradd were honored as part of the Tars' senior night
festivities.
