WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 14, 2006) ' The
one-two punch of Larissa McDonough
and Joslyn Giles led the Rollins College women's basketball
team to its 13th consecutive victory to start the 2005-06 season.
The 80-50 victory over the Fighting Knights of Lynn University
(8-6, 3-1 SSC) puts the Tars at 13-0 on the season and 5-0 in the
Sunshine State Conference. The 13th victory ties a Rollins school
record, as the Tars have twice before opened the season 13-0 prior
to losing its first game, with the last time occurring in
1999-2000.

McDonough
(Ormond Beach, Fla.) was on fire all night, going 7-11 from the
field, including 5-5 from the three point line for a team high 23
points. Senior forward Giles (Winter Haven, Fla.) went 7-17 from
the field for 17 points.
'
The
Fighting Knights entered the game tied atop the SSC standings with
the Tars, as both schools were undefeated in conference play. The
Knights were able to keep the Tars in check to start the game until
McDonough caught fire from behind the three point line. The junior
forward connected on three treys in 60 seconds to stretch the Tars
lead from 23-14 to 32-16 with 5:01 to play in the first half. Giles
added five of her 17 points to close out the first half and put the
Tars up 41-23. The Tars shot 51.7% (15-29) from the field in the
first half, including 4-4 from three point range while holding the
Knights to 26.1% (6-23).

The
second half saw the Tars once again use their deep bench to punish
their opponents. Rollins was able to go up by as many 34 points in
the half. At the final whistle, the Tars had a 30 point advantage
on the scoreboard.

Senior forward Randi Weiss
(Kissimmee, Fla.) led the Tars with
seven rebounds; while sophomore guard Jennifer Musgrove
(Palm Bay, Fla.) had a career high six
assists to go along with 11 points. Junior forward Jennifer
Catti (Ft. Myers, Fla.) returned
from injury to add four points and three rebounds off the bench for
the Tars. The Tars were able to out-rebound the Fighting Knights
56-26 but were forced into 21 turnovers compared to the Knights
19.

Lynn
was led by senior forward Cherise George with 16 points, while
senior center Megan Osmer added 11.
'
The
Tars will be aiming for a Rollins record 14th consecutive victory
to open the season when they travel to Tampa on Wednesday to face
the Spartans of the University of Tampa. The Spartans are currently
11-4 overall and 3-1 in the SSC. Game time in Tampa is set for 5:30
p.m.
