WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 23, 2005) ' The
Rollins College women's basketball team improved their record to
4-0 on the season on Wednesday evening after a 69-37 victory over
Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (0-4). The Tars were led by senior
Joslyn Giles with 17 points and eight rebounds and
junior Larissa McDonough with 16 points and a career high 12
rebounds.

McDonough
(Ormond Beach, Fla.) scored her first basketball of the evening 40
seconds into the game to tie the game at two. The Tars would then
go on to score five consecutive baskets and a free throw to take a
14-2 lead. The Tars would hold the lead for the remainder of the
game and would lead by as many as 19 in the first half and 37 in
the second half. Late in the second half the Tars scored eight
straight baskets to take the 37 point advantage, but Rio Piedras
fought back by notching five free throws in the last four minutes
to cut the Tars lead.

The Tars had a rough night from the free
throw line as they connected on only 14 of their 36 attempts and
also struggled from the three-point line, going 3 for 17.
Freshman Jennifer Dyer (Wake Forest, N.C.) had a team high six steals,
while Giles (Winter Haven, Fla.) added four assists to her 17
points.

Even
though they were down the entire game, Rio Piedras fought hard and
took advantage of the fouls being called and went 14-33 (.424) from
the line. The Jerezanas were led by Karla Ruiz, who scored 12
points, and Rose Diaz with a team high 10 rebounds.
The
Tars will have a short break for Thanksgiving as they travel to
Melbourne, Fla. to take part in the Florida Tech Classic on Friday
and Saturday.' The Tars will square-off against Puerto
Rico-Mayaguez on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and will have a rematch with
Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
