LOUISVILLE,
Ky. (November 19, 2005) The front court of the Rollins women's
basketball team scored a combined 51 points and pulled down 13
rebounds to lead the Tars to a 73-69 victory over Bellarmine
University on Saturday. The win captured the United
Electric/Executive West Tip-off tournament championship for
Rollins.
Junior
Larissa
McDonough led
the Tars with 18 points while seniors Joslyn
Giles added
17 and Randi
Weiss added
16.
Host
Bellarmine led for most of the first half, opening up a six point
advantage at 25-19 with seven minutes to go.' FreshmanJen
Dyer then
converted on a three point play for the Tars, setting off a scoring
blitz that led to a 40-36 halftime lead for Rollins.
Rollins
held the advantage through the first seven minutes, going up by as
much as 10, but saw the Knights come back and knot the score at 52
apiece with 12:39 showing on the clock. The game went back and
forth for the next few possessions until a Weiss trey with five
minutes to go put Rollins up at 63-61. Bellarmine came back and
tied the score at 69 all with just 24 ticks remaining, but Rollins
held strong on defense and hit their free throws down the stretch
for the big four point win.
McDonough
was named the Tournament MVP while Giles also earned all-tournament
honors.
The
Rollins women's basketball team will be back in action on
Wednesday, November 23 when they will host Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras
at 5:30 p.m. in Winter Park.
