Dr. Matt Monaco

Dr. Monaco joined Rollins Athletics in August 2026. In his role, he provides confidential mental health and mental performance services to Rollins student-athletes.

Dr. Monaco has spent the majority of his career working in collegiate counseling and sport psychology settings, providing individual and group services to student-athletes while developing mental performance programming for teams across a variety of sports. Before joining Rollins, he completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Delaware's Sport Psychology team.

His areas of focus include stress and anxiety, depression, mental performance and mental skills, sport-related pressures, self-confidence, psychological concerns related to injury, and personal and identity development. He also develops team-based programming on topics such as optimal performance, resilience, emotional regulation, visualization, and performance routines.

He takes a collaborative, person-centered, and strengths-based approach to clinical sport psychology. He believes supportive relationships are fundamental to creating positive change and strives to understand the individual behind the athlete. His goal is to create a warm and supportive environment while tailoring interventions and strategies to each individual's goals, sport, life context, and personality.

Dr. Monaco completed his predoctoral internship with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University at Albany. He earned his Psy.D. in counseling psychology and M.S. in athletic counseling from Springfield College and his B.S. in psychology from Sacred Heart University. He is also a member of the Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA).
Outside of work, Dr. Monaco enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and fishing, exploring new coffee shops and restaurants (huge foodie!), and spending time with friends and family.
