Biography

Sonia made solid strides as a junior and will look to make a bigger impact on the team this year as a senior.

2007: Bernal had a record season going 20-2 in singles play (5-2 in SSC) and 12-7 in doubles play with Allison Arof and Silvia Frandji. Bernal garnered All-SSC Second Team honors.

2006: Sonia went 11-11 in singles play (5-3 in conference play), went 2-3 in doubles with Anastasiya Shevchenko, 2-1 with Tasi Purcell, 7-9 with Cassie Webster and 1-0 with Melanie Beck.

2005: Saw significant time as a singles player, reaching the .500 mark at 9-9 overall. Played mostly as the No. 3 player, but also played a match as the No. 2 on the team. In doubles play, Bernal primarily teamed up with Silvia Frandji going 11-5 overall.

High School: Sonia had two very successful seasons at Dr. Phillips high school in Orlando. In her first year as the No. 2 player she helped lead her team to a state championship. In her second year she earned the No. 1 spot on the team and led the team to a district championship. In her two years she earned an all-conference award and the team''s MVP award.

Personal: Daughter of Alfonso Bernal and Sonia Valdivieso...Majoring in math and Spanish and would like to attend engineering school after graduation.
