Steve Frew

Steve Frew will serve as an assistant coach for a 24th season in 2019-2020. He is the pitching coach for the Tars and works with hitting, scouting, and recruiting.

In his role of pitching coach, Frew has seen the Rollins pitching staff flourish in the circle. Since 2006 (15 seasons), the staff has finished with an ERA ranked among the top 10 NCAA schools eleven times including earning the top ranking twice (2011 & 2019).

He also has seen numerous Tars pitchers ranked atop of the NCAA national leader board as well as the Sunshine State Conference individual leaders. In the same span of 15 seasons (2006-20), eleven pitchers finished ranked in the national top 10 in ERA.

Frew’s ability to develop pitchers can be exemplified in several pitchers on the Rollins staff. The most recent transformation occurred in 2018, Abby Summers struggled in her first season, but after Frew incorporated mechanical adjustments, Summers was a dominant pitcher as she finished the season with a 1.15 ERA (NCAA’s 7th best), striking out 10.2 per seven innings (3rd best in the NCAA), and allowed only 2.75 hits per seven innings (Best in the NCAA). Teams only were able to muster a batting average of .115 throughout the season.

Frew has also served as the assistant director of Michelle Frew's summer fastpitch camps and clinics for more than two decades. He also works as an engineer with Riptide Software, a Phoenix Defense Company, in Oviedo, Fla.

An active sports enthusiast, he has served as the official scorer for Rollins College basketball for eight seasons and has done statistical work for the Orlando Rays, Walt Disney's Wide World of Sports, and Florida Citrus Sports.

A 1988 graduate of Eckerd College where he was a pitcher on the baseball team, Frew received a master's degree from Slippery Rock University in 1991 and a doctoral degree in higher education from Nova Southeastern in 2001. Steve and Michelle have two children, Erin and Dylan.Â
