Ben Chafee took the helm of Rollins sailing's varsity program, becoming head coach ahead of the 2019-20 season.
"We are excited about what this means for Rollins Sailing," said Athletic Director Pennie Parker. "With Ben's experience in national competition, and with his approach to the intangibles of success and team-building, we think he is a great hire for Rollins."
In his first season at Rollins, the Tars were on the cusp of returning to national prominence when the coronavirus cancelled the season.
Chafee hails from Saunderstown, Rhode Island where he was coached as a youth by his brother, Quentin, Jr.
He went on to sail for Eckerd College as skipper and heavy crew, and competed for a national championship in co-ed fleet racing.
Chafee holds a US Sailing Level 3 Coach certification, and spent parts of eight years teaching in top programs such as Wayzata Community Sailing, Vineyard Haven Yacht Club, Nantucket Community Sailing, and Sail to Prevail.
He brings a new level of technical and tactical expertise to the Rollins waterfront.
