One of the finest baseball facilities in the South, Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepherd Field is home to the Tars tradition-rich baseball program.
The land on the corner of Aragon Ave. and Orange Ave. a mile from campus has been a baseball field since local merchants James E. Harper and F.W. Shepherd donated it to the City of Winter Park in 1926. Rollins obtained the property in 1933 and has enjoyed a fine home field advantage ever since.
The original bleachers were replaced in 1983 by the dedication of Alfond Stadium on March 8 with an exhibition against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The new facility seats 1,000 and features a weight room, press box, concession stand, and party deck.
The clubhouse was renovated in 2002 and rivals that of most minor league stadiums. A new scoreboard was put in place in 2004 and updated lighting was installed in 2012.
Prior to the 2019 season, the complex underwent an extreme makeover. The infield and foul grounds were converted to artificial turf. The backstop was moved up to install a picnic area behind homeplate. On the third base side of the field, a second locker room was added to house the Rollins JV locker room, as well as a private room for umpires. A brand new hitting cage was installed with four lanes, LED lighting and a durable roof to allow for training in any weather. The bleachers received a new roof as well as a new sound system.Â
Alfond Stadium is the site of the annual Rollins "Baseball Week" Tournament, the nation's oldest regular season baseball tournament.
