WINTER PARK, Fla. – Rollins women's soccer fell in a tight battle with No. 11 Ashland on Saturday night, dropping a 1-0 decision at Cahall-Sandspur Field.

Ashland controlled possession early while the Tars remained content to hold their shape defensively. The Eagles earned the first good look of the game, but Lauren Mehos made the save to keep the match level. Rollins responded by working its way into the attacking end and earning a corner, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.

The Eagles remained in control for much of the opening half, earning three more corners and continuing to test the Rollins defense. The Tars held firm, keeping much of the action in the midfield as the scoreless stalemate carried into halftime.

Ashland returned to the attack early in the second half, earning another corner following a Rollins foul. The Tars once again stood strong defensively, with a save from Mehos and a blocked shot keeping the Eagles off the board.

The Ashland attack finally broke through on a counter, working the ball down the field before a cross set up a shot that found the bottom left corner of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.

Rollins began to find some life offensively as the half progressed, earning a corner in the 70th minute, but the Tars couldn't turn the opportunity into an equalizer.

Ashland continued to battle for possession as Rollins increased the pressure in search of an opening. The Tars worked their way deep into the attacking end on multiple occasions, but time began to work against them.

Rollins made one final push up the sideline, earning a corner in the 86th minute. Ella Richardson got a look at goal following the opportunity, but her shot drifted wide. The Tars kept the pressure on in the attacking third over the final minutes but couldn't find the equalizer as the Eagles held on for the 1-0 win.

Rollins moves to 3-1 on the season and will return to action at The 'Spur on Wednesday, September 9 at 10:00 am when they host Columbus State.
