This Week in Athletics: September 16

Greetings #TARnation!

We are about to see the 2026-27 debut of five more teams as the fall season enters full swing. Before we get to the future though, let's recap what happened last week:  

-Volleyball (7-4) took I-75 north to Valdosta. Georgia and cleaned house with three wins over Paine, Lander, and Valdosta State, with two of those wins coming via 3-0 sweep. Cameron Grange led the attack with 29 kills and 37 digs, and was helped by Vivian Scuteri (15 kills, three blocks vs Lander) and Remington Doggett (11 kills, .310%) in the Valdosta match. Jenna Garza added 64 more assist to her season total, giving her 229 on the season. 

-Women's soccer (4-2) split their games last week, dropping a 4-2 match to Columbus State before bouncing back with a solid 3-0 shutout of Tampa in their SSC opener on Saturday. Freshman Chloe Milton found the net in both games, while sophomore Sophia Harutunian had a goal and an assist in the Tampa game. Also, shout out to junior Gianna Babusci for her first career collegiate goal, which came against the Spartans!

-Waterski found themselves on Champions Lake in Auburndale for the annual showdown with Florida Southern. Weather cut the event just short (jumps did not finish), but the Tars were looking great in slalom and tricks. Jaime Palomino paced men's slalom with two buoys at 41 off while newcomer Ines Sole had the second-best run in women's with four buoys at 35 off. On the trick side, Hannah Stopnicki breezed to a first place finish for the women, and Pablo Font took second for the men with a score of 6120. 

-Sailing was in Miami for the Singlehanded Championships over the weekend. Annie Samis captured fourth-place in the women's field, including a pair of wins in races four and five. On Sunday, Caleb Kinnear earned a fifth-place finish that included six top-10 finishes. Matthew Sexton ended up in 14th place. 

-Men's soccer had a tough week, dropping a 2-1 contest to Embry-Riddle on Wednesday followed by a 2-0 shutout at the hands of the Tampa Spartans in their first road game of the year. 



-Tennis is hitting the courts for the first time. On the women's side, they will hots New College of Florida in an exhibition on Thursday. Coach Tasi's squad has four new faces on the roster, and we are excited to see what they will bring to the table. The men are scheduled to host both New College of Florida and Army this weekend in a Hidden Dual format. They will start at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday.

-Volleyball opens their SSC slate with a road game against Palm Beach Atlantic (8-4) in West Palm Beach before returning to Winter Park for a home match against Embry-Riddle (7-3).  Nine of the eleven teams in the SSC have a record above .500 right now, so every match matters as the Tars begin their grueling conference schedule. 

-Sailing is off to Charleston for the SAISA Open and the SAISA Women's Open, hosted by the College of Charleston. 

-Women's soccer only has one match this week, a roadie at Palm Beach Atlantic (3-1-1). The Tare are currently atop the SSC standings at 1-0, and will look to continue to distance themselves from the rest of the pack. Six different players have found the net for Rollins this season, showcasing Coach Schuck's roster depth.  

-Men's soccer is in the same boat, with just the one game against PBA (1-1-3). However, their match is at home under the lights of Cahall-Sandspur Field on Saturday, beginning at 6pm. Finlay Prain leads the entire Sunshine State Conference in points, scoring four goals and adding two assists so far. 

-Golf is back! Both teams are on the road to open their fall seasons. The men are headed to Jacksonville to play in Flagler's Jay Jennison Cup, per annual tradition. Last year, Rollins was the top team in the 18-school field, and will look to defend their title. Meanwhile, the ladies are headed up north to enjoy cooler weather and Boston College's Red Bandanna Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. They last played at BC in Fall of 2045, when they took 7th/15 in the exclusive Division I field.
