WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 3, 2026) – Rollins honored its 10 seniors on Sunday during the final home date of the season at Alfond Stadium. The Tars resumed play from Saturday's suspended contest, finishing off a 13-4 victory before dropping the series finale to split the day with Wayne State.
Game One – Rollins 13, Wayne State 4
Rollins picked up right where it left off offensively.
Joey Rubin opened with a single through the left side, and
Collin Hughes followed with a walk to put two aboard.
Michael Furry capitalized, launching a three-run home run over the right field wall to give the Tars an early 3-0 lead.
Brett Dennis and the defense held firm through the next two innings, and Rollins added on in the third. Furry was hit by a pitch to open the frame, and
Jayden Brown followed with a walk. After both runners moved into scoring position on contact from
Connor O'Sullivan,
Matthew Mateo delivered with a base hit to center to plate a run.
Jimmy Thies followed with a bunt that forced an error, bringing in another, while an aggressive double steal pushed the lead to 6-0 before a rundown ended the inning.
The Tars continued to apply pressure in the fourth.
Mauri Bejarano drew a leadoff walk, and Hughes singled to put two on. A double steal moved both into scoring position before a walk to Brown loaded the bases. O'Sullivan then drew another walk, forcing in a run to extend the lead to 7-0.
Wayne State responded in the fifth with a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, trimming the deficit to five. The Warriors threatened further, loading the bases with two outs before the weather suspended play until Sunday.
When play resumed,
Coby Vallee entered in relief and worked out of the jam despite a single that brought in two runs, keeping Rollins in front, 7-4.
The Tars added insurance in the sixth, as Rubin doubled and Hughes walked to set up a sacrifice fly from Furry that made it 8-4.
Rollins broke the game open in the seventh. Mateo singled to lead off the inning before consecutive hit-by-pitches loaded the bases. Bejarano drove in a run with a single, Rubin added another RBI knock, and Hughes followed with a base hit to extend the lead. Furry doubled down the line to bring in another, and
AJ Barrios capped the inning with an RBI, pushing the score to 13-4.
Wayne State threatened in the ninth by loading the bases, but
Anthony Matteis and
Stephen Cherepanya combined to shut the door and secure the win. Vallee earned the victory in relief.
Game Two – Wayne State 6, Rollins 5 (10 Innings)
Both teams came up empty early, with a pair of hits in the first going to waste for Rollins as pitching settled in on both sides.
The Tars broke through in the third when Rubin worked a walk, advanced into scoring position, and came around to score on a double from Furry to give Rollins a 1-0 lead.
Brody Meyers and the Rollins staff kept Wayne State quiet through the middle innings, while the Warriors held the Tars to just the lone run.
Rollins added on in the sixth. Walks to Thies and Elrod put two aboard, and after a sacrifice bunt from Jonah DiCocco moved both into scoring position, pinch hitter
Elvin Figueroa delivered with a two-run knock to extend the lead to 3-0.
Wayne State responded with a two-run homer and an RBI hit to cut the deficit to one. Rollins answered, as Furry drew a walk and Theis doubled to bring him home and make it a 4-2 game.
The Warriors rallied again in the eighth, plating two runs to tie the game and force extras.
AJ Seymour worked a scoreless ninth to give Rollins a chance to walk it off, but the Tars were unable to capitalize.
Wayne State took the lead in the tenth with a solo home run and added another run on a tough play in the outfield. Rollins threatened in the bottom half, putting runners on and getting an RBI single from Figueroa to pull within one, but the comeback fell short as the Warriors held on.
Rollins returns to action for its final SSC regular season series against Palm Beach Atlantic from May 7–9. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday in West Palm Beach.
