FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 20, 2026) – The baseball team used a late-inning rally to comeback and take the series opener from Nova Southeastern on Friday, winning 6-3. The Tars now stand at 18-5, 9-1 SSC while the Sharks fall to 10-12, 3-7 SSC.
The Tars had a double in each of the first and second innings, but could not do anything with them. Nova Southeastern then jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second using a Dakota Jones RBI single to score Michael Arnold.
Following a quiet third and fourth inning, the Sharks added a second run in the fifth when Jorge DeGoti lifted a sac fly to center to plate Jones.
A single from
Collin Hughes in the sixth snapped a twelve-batter hitless streak, but the Tars could not do anything with the runner on base.
Noah Greenseid did a great job of keeping his team in the game, firing a scoreless bottom of the sixth as well.
Rollins finally broke through against starter Nick Manning in the seventh.
Connor O'Sullivan reached on an error to lead things off, and was immediately brought home when
Jimmy Thies unleashed a no-doubt home run to left field to tie the game. But the Tars were not done.
Jayden Brown walked,
Mauri Bejarano was hit by a pitch, and
Joey Rubin walked to load the bases with one out. Hughes then walked to earn an RBI, and
Matthew Mateo added an RBI to his season total with a groundout to make it 4-2.
David Austen was called on to take over the seventh. After getting two quick outs, he walked the next three batters to make things very interesting, Head coach
Jon Sjogren then called on
JR Struk out of the pen, and the freshman induced a groundout to keep the Sharks off the board.
The Tars added two more runs in the eighth thanks to an RBI single from
Jayden Brown and a passed ball that allowed Thies to come across.
Struk worked around a two-baserunner jam in the eighth, but ran into a spot of trouble in the ninth when he allowed a solo home run to Jack Cue. However, the big righty buckled down and got the next three hitters out to preserve the 6-3 win.
Greenseid earned the win with another quality start, going six innings while allowing just two hits, two earned, and striking out six. Struk picked up his fourth save of the season. Hughes and Brown each had two hits, while Thies had two runs and two RBI to lead the offense.
The two teams will square off for a doubleheader on Saturday to close out the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm from Ft. Lauderdale.
