Tars Sweep Under Monday Night Lights

Rollins defeated Wingate 4-0 to continue their scorching start to the season.

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 1, 2026) – Under the lights of the Tennis & Golf Center and with a rowdy crowd behind them, the Rollins men got it done Monday night, defeating Wingate 4-0 in the process. The dominant sweep improves the Tars to 5-0 on the season.

It was the home team grabbing an early lead courtesy of smooth doubles playing. First, it was Mo Anterist and Fabian Gusic setting the tone. The duo took line two 6-3 to put the Tars in position, while Richard Stoiberer and Pete Tran sealed the deal from the first court. Stoiberer and Tran pulled out a narrow 6-4 win to clinch the sought after point, leaving court three unfinished in the process.

The doubles action would be a sign of things to come for Anterist and Gusic. First, it was the senior, playing line three and dominating. Gusic rolled 6-1, 6-3 providing the second overall match point followed by Anterist who added one more to his team's score. From line five and in front of his parents, visiting all the way from Germany, Anterist mimicked his double's partner with a straight set winner. The sophomore went 6-3, 6-4 to pad the lead and put Rollins one win away from a match clinch.

Richie Stoiberer did not want the crowd to become restless. The senior put a bow on a dominant win with a straight set win of his own. Stoiberer maneuvered to a 6-3, 6-4 win on court two, putting the match in the books and sending the Tars' fans home happy.

Meanwhile, matches on courts one, four and six were left unfinished. Lawson Prather held a one set lead playing line one, while Nico de Giacomo and Pietro Cappellaro were both in scrappy matches that saw them drop set number one in a tiebreaker.

Head Coach Jay Friedman was fired up by his team's performance. Friedman wrote, "What an atmosphere under the lights. Great crowd and some really high-quality tennis. Big hand to Wingate, those guys are good and today I was glad to get them."

Friedman continued, "I wish them the best of luck and feel like they will make a good bit of noise as they move through their season. Our team is really coming together and I'm so happy to be with these guys!"
