WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 14, 2026) – The clouds parted, and the sun shined down as the Tars excelled once more on Saturday morning. Rollins nabbed the doubles point before clinching with three singles victories, defeating the Knights of Middle Georgia State, 4-1.
Phänomenal. That's the best way to describe the German duo of
Mo Anterist and
Fabian Gusic from doubles court two. The tandem breezed to a win in the minimum, six games to nothing. Accompanied by a win from their counterparts on the top court, Rollins once again took an advantage into the intermission.
Richard Stoiberer and
Pete Tran cracked ITA's top 50 in Wednesday's release, and their 6-3 win only helps their cause moving forward. Today, it gave Rollins a 1-0 lead.
The Rollins advantage doubled in size thanks to
Nico de Giacomo. The third-year player out of Vienna, Austria did not lose a game on court four. The lefty is perfect in his last
three singles sets dating back to Monday's win over Bucknell. That's the longest such streak for any Tar, and the best stretch of his career.
Middle Georgia State cut the lead in half from court one, but Rollins quickly answered. This time, it was senior captain Richie Stoiberer showcasing his skills from court three. The savvy vet prevailed in set number one, clawing to a 7-5 victory. From there, Stoiberer rolled. The match was over in straight sets thanks to his 6-2 effort in the next frame, and it put the home team in prime position to etch their names in the win column once again.
Mo Anterist did just that, following in line with the trend his teammates had shown in their singles' victories prior. The sophomore secured a perfect week and the match in one fell swoop with his 6-4, 6-2 result playing on court five.
Meanwhile,
Pete Tran was battling once more in singles number six. In the past week alone, Tran has won a set 7-5 to avoid the tiebreaker three different times. Today, his grit was on full display from the jump. The local product went 7-5 in his opening set before owning a 3-1 lead in set number two.
From court two,
Fabian Gusic possessed a 1-0 advantage in the deciding set when things were brought to a halt. Still, the Knights brought their armor today, making things tough for coach
Jay Friedman's squad.
Friedman had this to say after the match: "Really quality match today, Middle Georgia really came to play."
Friedman continued his praise offering, "I think they're a very dangerous team. Proud of the guys for stepping up on big points and when it got a little tight to play to our strengths in those moments"
Ultimately, the match goes into the score book as a 4-1 win for the Tars, improving their record to 9-1 on the season. Rollins will face another tough test Tuesday when the fourth ranked Wayne State Warriors step into the arena. Doubles action begins at 1pm. To follow the action all season long, check out
