WROW Women's Varsity 4+ Win

Women's Rowing

Four-for-Four at Season Opener on Lake Maitland

LAKE MAITLAND, WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2026) –The forecast may have been uncertain heading into race day, but by the time the flag dropped on Lake Maitland, conditions were near perfect, and so were the results for the Rollins women's rowing team.

The Tars went four-for-four in their season opener, capturing victories in the Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4, and Novice 4 against conference rivals Barry and Nova Southeastern. It marked an emphatic start to Rollins' pursuit of an NCAA Championship bid.

Rollins consistently got its bowballs ahead early and never relinquished control in any race.

In the Varsity 8, Rollins placed two boats within five seconds of each other, both finishing 10 seconds ahead of third-place Nova Southeastern in a tightly contested race.

The two Rollins crews battled stroke-for-stroke from the opening sequence, delivering the type of internal competition that has sharpened the program throughout the preseason.

"This is what these crews have been doing every day in practice," said head coach Thompson. "We even tweaked the line-ups this week, trying to prepare these women for anything the season may throw at them."

Rollins carried that momentum into the Varsity 4, taking an early lead and controlling the race from start to finish.

The crew set a strong rhythm early and maintained separation through the line, further solidifying the Tars' dominant showing.

The Novice 4 capped off the day with another commanding performance, demonstrating the depth and future strength of the program.

Novice 4+

The novice boat showed composure beyond experience, jumping out to an early advantage and steadily extending its lead to secure the fourth victory of the morning.

Rollins returns to Lake Maitland next weekend (March 7 – 7:50 a.m. start) for the Rollins Invitational, the final home regatta before the team heads on the road for the remainder of the season. Florida, Embry-Riddle, and Barry will join the field in what promises to be another competitive morning on the water.

Thank you to all alumni and parents who came out to support the Tars on Saturday. The coaches and student-athletes appreciate your continued support as the season gets underway.
