Pitching Shuts Down #11 Argonauts

Rollins defeated #11 West Florida 6-1 on Saturday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 7, 2026) - After dropping the first game of the series Friday, Rollins bounced back in a big way on Saturday with a convincing 6-1 win over #11 West Florida. The Tars now stand at 2-3 on the year, while the Argonauts suffer their first loss, sitting at 4-1.

The Tars struck early in the first inning, loading the bases with one out thanks to a walk and singles from Collin Hughes and Xavier Lopez. Next up was Jimmy Thies, who sent a ball to left that was misplayed by the fielder, allowing Hughes and Michael Furry to score. That was followed by a sac fly to right from Connor O'Sullivan that plated Lopez, making it 3-0.

West Florida got one back in the top of the second with a two-out single, but that would cap their scoring for the day. When the Argos hit a single with no one out in the third, they probably didn't think that would be the last hit of the game. However, Brett Dennis pitched himself out of a jam in the third, cruised through the fourth, and went 1-2-3 in the fifth to wrap up his day.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rollins scored twice. Joey Rubin led off with a single, and came all the way around to score on a double from Hughes. After moving to third on a groundout, Hughes then scored on a balk to make the score 5-1.

JR Struk was called on in the sixth, and retired six of the seven batters he faced. Next on the mound was AJ Seymour, who had a perfect eighth. Rollins added one more run on a solo home run from Thies in their final at bat, making the final of 6-1. Seymour closed the book on the day with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.

Coming into the day, West Florida was averaging 6.5 runs per game. Instead it was the Tars showcasing the offense on Saturday, with eight hits, a walk, and two hit by pitches. Rollins pitchers tallied 12 strikeouts in the game, a season-high.

The two teams will have their rubber match on Sunday, February 8th. First pitch is scheduled for noon from Alfond Stadium.
