Tars Improve to 3-0 in Road Victory

Rollins defeated Eckerd 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon in their first road match of the season

St. Petersburg, Fla. (February 24, 2026) – Rollins fended off a scrappy Eckerd club by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The road conference win improves the Tars to 3-0 on the season.

The Tars secured the doubles point quickly courtesy of lines two and three. Mo Anterist and Fabian Gusic set the tone with a 6-1 effort from number two, a score that Nico de Giacomo and Prather Lawson would match on court three. Despite Eckerd taking doubles number one later on, Rollins carried the advantage into singles.

Anterist showed no signs of slowly down after making quick work in duo action. The sophomore proved to be a stout opponent on line four, giving the Tars their first singles point in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Then it was the senior, Richard Stoiberer who continues to showcase his experience from line two. The veteran also found success in two sets, winning 6-2, 6-3.

Elsewhere, from line one, it was Prather Lawson sealing the deal with a gritty 6-2, 6-4 win in his first collegiate road contest. Unfazed by the noise, Prather locked down the match and passed off his fortune to Pietro Cappellaro, who stepped right up to singles line five with intentions of a victory himself. Cappellaro did just that, giving Rollins their fifth win with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set result.

Finally, in a pair of battles on lines six and three, the Tars and Tritons would split the final matches of the day. It was Pete Tran overcoming a deficit to force a tiebreaking third set, set but unfortunately would not quite get over the hump. Meanwhile, Nico de Giacomo played himself into a grueling three setter, prevailing 11-9 in the finale to send Rollins home with a 6-1 win.

The overall match, despite a lopsided result, was a doozy for spectators. Head Coach Jay Friedman remarked, "Glad with the result for today but certainly they pushed us in ways they haven't in the past. Quite a match."

The intense match will only do the Tars favors down the road, a familiar place for the men in the upcoming days. First, Rollins will travel to West Palm Beach for a conference bout with PBA on Friday, before wrapping their trip on Saturday with a contest with St. Thomas University down in Miami Gardens.
