WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 21, 2026) – Rollins baseball took both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, earning a series sweep of Florida Southern. The Tars now stand at 9-4 on the year with a 3-0 record in SSC play. The Mocs fall to 4-11, 0-3 SSC.
GAME ONE
Rollins 7, Florida Southern 4
After each team stranded a runner in the first, the Mocs threatened in the second, loading the bases with a single and two hit batters. On the next play, Adrian Davis lined a ball to second that seemed to bounce out of the glove of
Joey Rubin. After a lengthy discussionbetween the umpires and head coaches, the ball was ruled caught and losse on the transfer, negating the Mocs run.
Brett Dennis then pitched out of the jam unscathed.
In the bottom of the inning, Rollins recorded three hits.
Connor O'Sullivan and
Jimmy Thies singled.
Jayden Brown brought in O'Sullivan with a groundout, and three baters later,
Collin Hughes ripped a single to right center to plate Thies and
Stephen Deans to make it 3-0.
Florida Southern rallied in the fourth with the help of two errors from the Tars. They ended up scoring a pair of runs, both unearned, to pull within one.
After Dennis struck out a pair in the fifth, he received extra support from his offense.
Matthew Mateo brought in
Joey Rubin with a single. Then with the bases loaded, Thies walked in a run and Brown delivered a sac fly to left to put Rollins up 6-2.
JR Struk took over on the mound, and had a clean sixth. He ran into trouble in the seventh though, opening the frame with a double, walk, single, and walk. However, under immense pressure, he got the next three batters out to keep the score 6-3.
Again, the Tar offense stepped up to help their pitcher out.
Michael Furry led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on an O'Sullivan single.
The Mocs wrapped up the scoring with a solo home run in the ninth, but
David Austen induced a double play to wrap up the game with a final of 7-4.
Matteo and O'Sullivan each had two hits and an RBI. Hughes and Brown each drove in a pair. Dennis remains undefeated on the season at 3-0, and continues his stretch of not allowing an earned run this season.
GAME TWO
Rollins 5, Florida Southern 2
Brody Meyers drew the start in game two, and made quick work of the Mocs in the top of the first. The Tars stayed hot with the stick as Rubin doubled to lead off the inning. After moving to third on a lineout, he scored when Furry ripped a base hit down the left field line. Two batters later, O'Sullivan delivered sac fly to plate Furry, followed by an RBI single from
Elvin Figueroa to make it 3-0.
The game had a small delay before the top of the fourth inning when the home plate umpire had to take himself off the field due to heat exhaustion. For the remainder of the game, only one umpire was present.
After Meyers worked out of a jam in the fifth with a double play, Mateo gave him a boost with his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot to right center. The Tars continued to threaten with two men on, but a line drive to wall was caught on a tremendous play from Southern's Mikey Scott to quell further damage.
The Mocs scraped across a pair of unearned runs in the seventh, using two hits and an error to their advantage. However, Rollins got one back in the bottom of the frame with a sac fly from
Jayden Brown that brought home Mateo, making it 5-2.
Tyler Toro, who entered in the seventh, tossed scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth to lock in his first save of the year.
Mateo had a three hit game, leading to three runs and an RBI to lead the offense.
Elvin Figueroa also had three hits, the first three of his season and in his Rollins career. Meyers struck out four to earn his second win of the year.
Next up for Rollins is a midweek matchup with Flagler on Wednesday, February 25. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm from Alfond Stadium.
