Greetings #TARnation!
We are so close to fall break, you can already smell the beach. While you're packing your floaties and sunscreen, take a minute to catch up on the latest with the Tars:
-Women's golf put together an incredible weekend as they hosted some of the top teams in the country at the NCAA Championship Preview at Mission Resort this weekend. First, the ladies shot a 295 in the final round to leapfrog UT Tyler and capture the trophy. Next, sophomore Addy Vogt was dialed in all weekend, shooting under par in all three rounds to claim the individual medal. Lastly, a big shout out to first-year head coach Krissy Carman, who secured a win for Rollins in just her second career event as skipper!Â
-Waterski saw plenty of success on the waters of Divorce Lake in Alabama as they competed in the SAC Regional. Men's slalom was dominated by the Tars as Charlie Ross, Jaime Palomino, Niki Attensam, and Kamil Belmrah claimed the top four spots in the standings. For the ladies, Ines Sole tied for first in slalom with an impressive five buoys at 35 off. In tricks, Pablo Font took second for the men while Hannah Stopnicki captured second on the women's side. In overall competition, Patrick Payne and Sophie Lahaie each placed fourth for their respective gender.Â
-Women's soccer had a solid week, earning a 1-0 win over Lynn at home, and playing to a 0-0 draw against Florida Southern on the road. Lauren Mehos was a brick wall at the net, allowing zero goals while racking up nine saves to keep the Tars at the top third of the SSC standings.Â
-Volleyball split their matches over the weekend. They fell to #13 Lynn on Friday, but rebounded nicely with a 3-1 win over Nova Southeastern at Warden Arena. Kayla Goodloe continued her impressive season, racking up 23 kills in the win over the Sharks.Â
-Swimming opened their season with a conference matchup at home versus #17 Florida Tech. On the men's side, the #21 Tars tied the Panthers 131-131 in a back-and-forth battle. Individual winners included Carter Kegle (500 free, 1000 free), Seth Basinger (200 free), and Noah Smith (100 back, 200 back). The ladies fell in their contest, but saw impressive performances from the 200 medley relay team, Payton Menely (1000 free), Alexa Kwarcinski (100 breast, 200 IM), Libby Holmes (200 fly), and Julianne Armstrong (500 free).
-Men's soccer took a loss at the hands of the Lynn Fighting Knights on Wednesday, but fought hard in a 1-1 draw with #11 Florida Southern at home. TJ Junaid had the equalizer goal for the Tars, who were joined pregame by dozens of youth players frmo FC America soccer club.Â
-Sailing had a split-squad situation over the weekend. They took 10th place at the Charleston Fall Interconference, and saw their top women's team fight for 11th at the ACC Round One all the way up in Brunswick, Maine.Â
-A special shout out to men's lacrosse senior Sean Laureano who helped the Puerto Rico national team to a fourth-place finish at the Pan-American Sixes Championship in Canada last week. The win moves the team to the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championship in Colorado, with a berth in the 2028 Summer Olympics at stake.
-Volleyball (9-8, 2-4 SSC) have a busy week with three matches in five days. They will play at home on Friday against Eckerd (11-7, 3-4 SSC), Saturday against Saint Leo (5-12, 1-6 SSC), and on the road Tuesday versus Embry-Riddle (10-5, 3-3 SSC). Saturday's game is the annual Colorful and Courageous night. Fans are encouraged to bring crayons, markers, paper, or any other art supplies that will be donated to children battling disease. The team will also be wearing special tye-dye warmups to bring awareness to the cause!
-Sailing continues their fall slate with a trip to Jacksonville for the annual Dick Allsop Trophy. The Tars will be looking to defend their title as they bested 14 other squads last year for the win.Â
-Swimming has another home meet on Saturday as they host New College of Florida at noon. Another great chance to enjoy your lunch on the patio outside the pool and cheer on the Tars!
-Men's soccer (4-3-2, 2-2-1 SSC) will head down I-95 to take on the Barry Buccaneers (2-5-2, 1-3-1 SSC). The two schools have met 50 times previously, with the Tars holding the slightest of edges at 23-22-5 overall. Last year, the two teams played to a 2-2 draw.Â
-Women's soccer (6-3-1, 3-1-1 SSC) will host the Bucs (6-2-3, 0-2-3 SSC) at The 'Spur on Saturday night. The Tars are third in the conference table right now, and in position to host a SSC tournament game. The Bucs have allowed only six goals all season, so expect a tight battle in this one!
-Men's golf returns to the links following their victory in Pennsylvania two weeks ago. This time they are headed to the Copperhead Invitational, hosted by West Florida at the stunning Innisbrook Golf Club. The boys are hot, and will look to improve on their 9th place finish in last year's event.Â
