Murray Nets 22 as Tars Fall to Tritons

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (January 7, 2026) – Rollins women's basketball fell on the road Wednesday night, dropping an 88–64 decision to Eckerd.

The Tritons opened the game on a 14–2 run, with Grace Craig supplying the lone early basket for the Tars. Rollins quickly settled in, as a three from Jordyn Egger sparked the offense and set up back-to-back buckets from Tara Murray to pull within four. Eckerd responded with a few more scores, but Murray answered again inside, while Faith Newton found Makayla Daube for a jumper to keep the margin manageable. The Tritons closed the quarter on another push, however, taking a 29–14 lead into the break.

McKenna Murphy opened the second quarter with an and-one finish in the lane. Eckerd strung together a couple of baskets before Craig knocked down a jumper to halt the momentum. Murray continued her strong night with a three, and Craig added another layup as Rollins continued to battle. The Tars closed the half with a productive stretch, as Escribano, Murphy, and Craig each converted inside to trim the deficit heading into the locker room.

Murphy again jump-started the offense out of halftime with a jumper to answer a pair of Eckerd scores. Murray kept it rolling with a layup, then buried another three before sinking two at the line shortly after. She stayed hot with a jumper and another triple later in the quarter, while Newton added a layup to cap the frame, sending Rollins into the fourth trailing 77–50.
Craig opened the final quarter with a layup, and Newton connected from deep a few possessions later. After a brief scoring lull for both teams, Newton buried another three, and Craig converted an and-one to continue the push. Newton struck again from beyond the arc late, but Eckerd's early advantage held through the final horn as the Tritons secured the 88–64 win.

Murray finished with a collegiate-career-high 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting to lead the Tars. Newton added 14 points, while Craig posted 13 to go with six rebounds. Murphy contributed seven points and a team-high three assists. As a group, Rollins shot 50% from the field and 42.9% from three while tallying 24 points in the paint.

Rollins falls to 5–9 overall and 0–7 in SSC play, while Eckerd improves to 10–4 (5–2 SSC). The Tars return to Warden Arena on Saturday, Jan. 10, for a 2 p.m. matchup with Nova Southeastern.
