Tars Score Twice in Second Half for Comeback Win

Justin Nelson and Hayden Judge found the net in the first game of the year

GREENWOOD, SC (September 5, 2025) - Men's soccer shrugged off a slow start on Friday and ended the day with a 2-1 comeback win over Wingate on the campus of Lander University. This is the fifth straight year that Rollins opened their season against the Bulldogs, winning four of the five matches.

The first thirty minutes of the game did not see too much action as the two teams figured each other our. Rollins was able to attempt five shots, but they were all off target. Wingate didn't have a shot until the 32nd minute when Jude Enwhistle let one rip from more than 30 yards out, rifling the ball past Kilian Vallant to put Wingate up 1-0.

Just over eleven minutes into the second half, the Tars made their way on to the board. Playing off a corner kick, Justin Nelson was tackled out of mid-air while in the box, drawing a penalty. Nelson was awarded the chance by head coach Keith Buckley, and he delivered a simple strike to his left to tie the game at one.

The final goal of the game came in the 73rd minute. Kaden Foreman lined up a corner kick, and sent a screamer into the box. Fellow senior Hayden Judge was ready for the action and smashed a header into the net to put Rollins up 2-1.

Wingate managed two shots on target in the final minutes, but Vallant was up to the challenge, stopping both to secure the win.

The Tars outshot the Bulldogs 15-9, but the Bulldogs had more shots on target (4) than the Tars (3). Rollins had six corners to Wingate's one.

The lads will take an off day on Saturday before returning to Van Taylor Stadium on Sunday to take on the host Lander Bearcats. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
