WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 25, 2025) – The Rollins women's tennis team met a tough challenge Friday afternoon, squaring off with third ranked Nova Southeastern in the SSC quarterfinals. The Sharks, who had only lost two times entering the matchup, proved too much for the Tars to handle, winning the contest 4-0 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
Nova Southeastern picked up the doubles point, earning it with victories on the first and third courts of action. On court two, Milla Falster and Stella Fruijtier were left unfinished after the point had been decided.
On the singles side, the Sharks continued their hot play. A quick win on court one gave Nova a 2-0 match lead, which soon became a three-point advantage following a win on court four. Amina Abdulloeva, playing on court six, battled in the second set of her match after being defeating 6-0 in set number one. Ultimately, the freshman fell just short, losing 6-4 in set two. The victory officially clinched the overall match for Nova, meaning other contests were left unfinished. Of note, Amina Taibi was entering set number two after dropping a narrow 7-6 first set of which she gave the Shark's Ita Habekovic all she could handle.
The quarterfinal loss halts the Tars season at 12-8, but there is certainly much to positively take away. Rollins doubled their win total from each of the last two seasons and the group collectively racked up the most wins for the program since the 2017-18 season. The Tars cracked the top 20 of the polls back in March and won three of the final five conference matches to finish off the regular season. The Rollins College athletic communications department would like to thank seniors Polina Vlasova, Nina Mitrofanova and Polina Ligay for all their efforts and contributions to the program!
