MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 29, 2025) - Rollins avoided a series sweep, putting together an impressive 10-1 win over Florida Tech on Saturday. The Tars now stand at 21-9 overall with an 11-4 record in the SSC. Then Panthers move to 18-16.
Rollins jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of a costly two-out error from the Panthers.
Corey Zientek sent a slow-roller to the right side. The ball was fielded cleanly, but the underhand scoop from Pedro Figueroa went sailing past the pitcher, allowing
Mason Wilson to score.
Stephen Deans was up next, and roped a single to left-center, plating
Dalton Pyzer and Zientek.Â
The Tars received a power boost in the second when
Kyle Singer launched a no-doubter over the left-center fence to make it 4-0.Â
Tech got on the board in the second with a double, but a beautiful relay from
Angelo Ramirez to
Kyle Singer to Deans cut down a second runner from scoring and ended the inning. They threatened again in the third with runners on first and third with no outs, but
Nick Berger worked two groundballs and a flyout to quell the threat.Â
Rollins rallied again in the sixth, using RBI singles from Singer and
Michael Furry to grow their lead to 6-1. Two more runs were added in the eighth on a double from
David Pereira and an error.Â
The scoring wrapped up in the ninth as Deans added another RBI on a double, and Ramirez launched a sac fly to right that plated Zientek.Â
Paul Janeczko tossed a scoreless ninth in his season debut to wrap the game up.Â
Rollins recorded double digit hits in all three games of the series, including 13 on Saturday. Five Tars had two or more hits, led by Singer's three. He also added two runs and two RBI from the nine-hole.Â
Berger turned in his sixth quality start of the year on the mound. The senior worked through eight innings, scattering nine hits while allowing one run, one walk, and striking out four.Â
The Tars will return home for the first time in two weeks next weekend when they host the Barry Buccaneers. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Friday, April 4.Â
