WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2025) - Powered by the long ball and the stellar arm of
Reese Twiggs, Rollins softball got back to their winning ways Friday night, defeating Lynn 5-1. The win improves the Tars to 19-8 on the season and 8-5 in conference play.
Â
After Twiggs worked around two baserunners in the top of the first, it did not take long for the Tars to grab a lead.
Brooke Theisen singled to right with one out, and
Madi Carr followed her up with a moonshot over the left field fence to jump in front 2-0.
Â
Lynn answered back, though, grabbing a run in the top of the second off a Cameron Buzz single through the right side. The RBI cut the Tars lead in half, but that would be as close as the Fighting Knights would get all night.
Â
The Tars went down in order in the second inning, but the heart of the order was ready to do more damage in the third. After a one out walk was issued to Carr,
Jaden Walker stepped up to the dish and demolished a 1-1 fastball to right-center. The homer, making the score 4-1, was Walker's third on the season, and it secured a three-game hit streak for the graduate senior.
Â
Twiggs continued to cruise through five innings, and the Tars provided more run support in their fifth at-bat. Leadoff hitter Bri Perantoni has done nothing but hit during her first season in Winter Park, and she continued doing just that, singling to jumpstart the Tars in the frame. After a Lynn error and a
Madi Carr single, the bases were loaded for Walker, who collected another RBI with a sacrifice fly to center. Walker's productive out gave her three RBI on the day. Thanks to her two-run blast earlier in the game, Walker was also part of the tandem at the top of the order (Perantoni, Theisen, Carr, and Michelli) that combined for six hits on the evening.
Â
The Fighting Knights would strand runners in each of the final two stanzas, but no real threat ever came to be as Twiggs picked up her eighth win in the circle.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow for a double header. First pitch of game one is slated for 12pm from MLK Park.
