WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2025) - Softball dropped the first of three games against Embry-Riddle on Friday night, losing 7-4. The Tars now stand at 7-4 (5-2 SSC) while the Eagles improve to 9-5 (3-4 SSC).
The Tars worked around three walks in the first inning with the help of a caught stealing and a back pick from catcher
Marisa Edevane. In the bottom of the frame, Bri Perantoni led off with a triple, and came around to score on a double steal.
Disaster struck the Tars in the second. With two on and two outs, starter
Emily MacMullen fielded a comebacker cleanly, but her throw to first was well wide of the bag, allowing both runners to score. A single added a third run, giving Embry-Riddle a 3-1 lead.
Rollins got one run back in the third on a
Brooke Theisen bunt single that brought in
Makayla Layton.
After a quiet fourth, the Eagles found the scoreboard again. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with two outs, and a shot up the middle plated two, extending the lead to 5-2.
The Tars added one in the fifth on a
Madi Carr RBI single that scored Theisen, and wrapped up their scoring in the sixth when an error in right field allowed Edevane to score, cutting the lead to 5-4.
Embry-Riddle added two insurance runs in the seventh thanks to a pair of errors from the Tar defense, making the final of 7-4.
MacMullen too the loss after 3.1 innings of work.
Camila Leon-Blanco finished the final 3.2 innings for the Tars. Theisen led the offense with two hits, a run, and one RBI.
The two teams will meet up again on Saturday for a doubleheader to close out the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
