WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 18, 2025) - Women's basketball held an early lead, but ultimately dropped an SSC home match against #15 Embry-Riddle, 58-46 on Saturday. The loss drops Rollins to 7-9 on the year and 2-7 against SSC opponents. The Eagles improve to 15-1, 9-0 SSC.
Rollins controlled the first quarter, helped by two separate makes from
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez that gave the Tars a lead. Late in the first, following multiple stops on defense,
Maddie Dillinger converted a layup, and
Kaitlyn Sanders hit a three, to go ahead 11-10.
Claire Erickson added a three and a layup late in the period to put Rollins up 16-12 at the first horn.
The Tars would grow their lead to seven on a
Ajalon Gillard three, but the Eagles oon caught fire and made their comeback. At the 4:01 mark, a jumper from Jenna Teterycz put them ahead 26-25. They would add six more points to take a 32-29 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was a struggle for both sides as a total of eight points were scored between the two sides.
Rollins and Embry-Riddle each shot 50% in the fourth quarter, but the difference came at the free throw line where the Eagles went 7-8, clutching their opportunities late. A made shot from
Faith Newton helped make the final score 58-46.
Claire Erickson led the Rollins offense with 11 points while adding four assists. Madyson Jean-Louis was the games high scorer with 17 for the Eagles.
Next up for Rollins is a road game at Florida Southern. Tipoff from Lakeland is set for 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 22.
