LAKELAND, Fla. (May 3, 2024) – The 19th-ranked Rollins softball team took the first game of a three-game set at Florida Southern on Friday, winning the opener, 6-0. The Tars are now 36-11, 19-9 in SSC games, while the Mocs fall to 16-33 overall, 8-20 in conference play.
Grace Germer went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Claire Long was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Ashley Worrell (21-5) got the complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning

Long opened the third inning with a single and moved to second when Hayley Lazo was hit by a pitch.

After Kaeli Zahradnik laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up, Germer delivered an RBI single to score Long with the first run of the game.
Fifth Inning

Long started off the fifth by reaching on an error and then promptly stealing second.

Chloe Bauer reached on a pinch-hit bunt single that moved Long to third, and Bauer also immediately stole second.

Zahradnik then ripped a double to plate both runners to make it 3-0 Tars.

Germer followed that with a bunt single to push Zahradnik to third, and Germer then took advantage and stole second base.

Taylor Waters kept the train moving with a two-run double to push the lead to 5-0.

Following a pitching change, Brie Michelli singled, moving Waters to third, and Michelli then stole second.

Following a walk to Worrell, Sarah Young singled home Waters to increase the lead to 6-0.

Young then promptly stole second base, marking the fifth steal of the inning for Rollins.

The Tars then loaded the bases with one out, but FSC was able to prevent any further damage.
