TAMPA, Fla. (April 5, 2024) – The 20th-ranked Rollins softball team snatched the first game of a three-game set at third-ranked Tampa on Friday, winning the opener, 3-2. The Tars are now 30-8, 13-6 in SSC games, while the Spartans fall to 30-6 overall, 12-4 in conference play.
Taylor Waters was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while
Grace Germer went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Ashley Worrell (16-4) got the complete game victory, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning
- After Tampa got on the board first with a run in the second inning, the Tars answered back with a pair in the third.
- Kaeli Zahradnik started the two-out rally with a walk, with Germer knocking her in with an RBI double.
- Waters then singled to left to score Germer, putting Rollins up, 2-1.
Sixth Inning
- Tampa tied things up with a run in the fifth, but the Blue and Gold quickly answered in the next half-inning.
- Waters led off with a base hit and moved to third when Worrell singled two batters later.
- Sarah Young drove in Waters with a sacrifice fly to put the Tars back in front, 3-2.
Seventh Inning
- Tampa threatened in the seventh, putting two on with two out, but Worrell got a strikeout to end the game, slamming the door on the Spartans.

These same two teams will be back at it tomorrow, playing a doubleheader that is set to begin at 1 p.m.
