Rollins Knocks Off Embry-Riddle in Third-Place Match at SSC Championships

The Tars defeated the Eagles by a score of 4-1 on Sunday

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 28, 2024) – The fifth-ranked and second-seeded Rollins men's tennis team closed out the SSC Championship in Lakeland with a win over 13th-ranked and fourth-seeded Embry-Riddle, 4-1, in the third-place match on Sunday. The Tars are now 19-2 while the Eagles drop to 15-7.

COACH'S QUOTES:
"Definitely a weekend we learned a lot from," said Head Coach Jay Friedman. "And we certainly need to remember we started this season in January and just this weekend did we take our second loss of the season. Great effort from the guys to bounce back mentally from yesterday and really come out locked in for the doubles. No match with Embry-Riddle is going to be easy and I was happy for some of our guys to fight through playing less-than-perfect tennis. The adjustments made by both Richie and his opponent on court four made that quite good entertainment. Back at it this week getting ready for what's to come in the NCAA tournament in two weeks."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles Singles
  • Rollins quickly took a 2-0 lead as de Giacomo won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Quaynor made it a 3-0 score with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court two.
  • Embry-Riddle scored its lone point of the match with a win on court six before Castaneda clinched the win for the Tars with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court five.
  • Comu was up 6-3, 4-5 on court one and Stoiberer was tied on court four, 4-6, 6-4, 1-1, when the match was clinched.
