WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 16, 2024) - A Tuesday non-conference matchup did not go as planned against Flagler as the Saints rallied late to defeat Rollins, 9-2. The loss moves the Tars to 22-15 on the season, whole Flagler improves to 20-21.
The game lacked offense early as both
Jacob Burr and Eli Roberts were keeping the opposing offenses in check. The Saints did manage to get on the board with a solo home run in the third, and then did it again in the fourth. A third run from Flagler came in the sixth on a single through the infield, putting Rollins in a 3-0 hole.
Rollins only managed one hit in the game until the eighth when they showed signs of life. With one out,
Stephen Deans ripped a single to center. The next batter was
Jack Herring, who took the second pitch he saw over the left-center fence for a two run shot, making it a 3-2 game. Rollins looked poised to add to their total when
Jose Perez walked and
Mason Wilson singled. A groundball put runners on the corners, but with two outs, a fly out stopped any remaining threat.
Until that point, the game had been moving along nicely. Once the top of the ninth hit, the game turned into a blowout. Flagler scored six runs in the inning on only one hit thanks to five walks, a hit by pitch, and an error. The Tars got one man on in their final at bat, but could not score again.
Herring recorded two hits and two RBI to lead the offense, extending his hit streak to nine games.
Rollins is off for the weekend, and will next see the field in Melbourne on Wednesday, April 24 when they face the Florida Tech Panthers in a non-conference matchup.
