WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2024) – The Rollins baseball team finished off its first SSC series sweep on Saturday, taking both ends of a doubleheader over visiting Lynn. The Tars took the opener, 3-2, before capping the series with an 8-2 victory. Rollins is now 14-8 overall on the season, 6-3 in conference play, while the Fighting Kinghts fall to 15-12, 3-6 in SSC games.
Game 1 – Rollins 3, Lynn 2
Jack Herring went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in the first game, while
Chris Sparber was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run.
Nick Berger (4-1) earned the victory with eight innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out five.
Ryan Murphy notched his third save of the year, surrendering a run on a hit in the ninth with one punchout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning
- Oscar Murray started a one-out rally in the third with a single up the middle, and Herring followed with a base hit to push Murray to second.
- Mason Wilson then delivered a single through the left side to plate Murray with the first run of the day.
Eighth Inning
- After Lynn tied things up with a solo home run in the seventh, Sparber delivered a go-ahead two-run home run with two down in the eighth, scoring Herring who had drawn a one-out walk.
Ninth Inning
- Murphy came on to close it out in the ninth, and despite a solo home run, he limited the damage to just the one run to secure the 3-2 win and earn the save.
Game 2 – Rollins 8, Lynn 2
In game two, Herring was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Murray was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored and
Matthew Farner finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Ryan Furey (4-0) got the win, allowing two runs on four hits in 6.1 innings, walking one and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second Inning
- After Lynn put a run on the board in the first, the Tars bounced back with a pair in the second.
- Sparber led off with a base hit and Farner then reached on a throwing error, putting two on with nobody out.
- Jimmy Thies tied the game with a single up the middle to score Sparber, and the Blue and Gold took a 2-1 lead when Farner scored on a double play.
Third Inning
- Murray doubled with one down in the third and quickly scampered home on a base hit from Herring, increasing the lead to 3-1.
Fifth Inning
- Jose Perez led off the fifth by reaching on a dropped third strike, and he came around to score on a one-out two-run homer from Herring, making it a 5-1 game.
Sixth Inning
- Nathan Tinder drove in Farner, who had led off with a double, with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 6-1.
Seventh Inning
- The Fighting Knights got a run back in the top of the sixth, but Murray answered back with a solo shot in the bottom half to restore the five-run lead at 7-2.
Eighth Inning
- Farner tacked on an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 8-2.
Ninth Inning
- Jacob Burr, who came on in relief in the seventh inning, pitched around a walk and a base hit in the ninth to keep Lynn off the board in the ninth, finishing off the 8-2 win.

The Tars are back at home next weekend as they host Florida Tech in another SSC series, with game one set for 5 p.m. on Friday, March 22.
