Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tars Sail Past Mustangs

Rollins defeated Midwestern State 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 13, 2024) - Men's tennis picked up their fifth win against a ranked opponent this season, coasting past the Midwestern State Mustangs 5-1 on Wednesday. The win moves Rollins, the #10 team in the country, to 11-1 on the season.

Things started on doubles one where Luke Quaynor/Richard Stoiberer, ranked the #9 duo in the today's ITA rankings, fought past Argente/Slocombe 6-2. Rollins then claimed the point on number three thanks to a 6-2 effort from Efe Comu/Nico de Giacomo. Court two did not finish due to the point being clinched.

Comu transitioned to singles, and was the first to finish. The #28 ranked solo player laid the wood on Germano Setti on court one, winning 6-1, 6-1.

The Mustangs avoided the shutout by taking the match on number five where Bruno Sanchez worked his way around Guillermo Castaneda 6-0, 1-6 ,6-2.

Court two was one of the most entertaining as Killian Guillou and Luke Quaynor needed three sets to settle their duel. Guillou opened with a 6-4 win, but Quaynor bounced back to a 6-3 in set two and a 6-2 in set three for the win.

The Tars then staked their claim to victory with the fourth point of the day coming from number four. Richard Stoiberer and Philip Kamara were evenly matched, needing three sets and a tiebreak to determine a winner. In the end, it was the Austrian securing a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (4) win.

Court six was into their tiebreaker when the overall match was clinched, so the coaches had Juan David Duque and Moritz Stenzer finish out. In another evenly matched affair, Stenzer came away the victor with a wild 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-6 (3) win.

Coach's Corner:
"The score board reads 5-1, but that was one of the biggest fights we've had this year. A full three-plus hours, and their women's team and bench players certainly brought up the energy big time. Hats off to Midwestern for really coming after us and competing. We were pushed, and it was great to see guys step through some big pressure point. Really happy to see Moritz step in and stay solid through the stretch today."

Rollins will face Wisconsin-Superior on Friday at home before taking a much needed week off. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 am.
