WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 12, 2024) – The Rollins softball team saw its win streak come to an end on Tuesday with a 3-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader before bouncing back to win the second game, 6-0. That victory was a milestone victory as it marked the 100th win in the young career of Head Coach
Christine Roser-LeFevers. The split pushes the Tars to 20-6 on the year, while the Huskies are now 7-3.
Roser-LeFevers reached the 100-win plateau in just her fifth season of coaching. She earned 16 wins in two seasons at Mars Hill and is now 84-35 in her two-plus seasons at Rollins.
Game 1 – Bloomsburg 3, Rollins 1
Taylor Waters went 1-for-3 and Marisa Edavane was 1-for-2 with a double for the Tars in game one.
Ashley Worrell (9-3) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in a complete-game effort, striking out two and walking none.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Bloomsburg used some small ball in the first inning, with the leadoff batter reaching on a single, moving up on a sacrifice bunt, and scoring on a throwing error to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
Fifth Inning
- The Huskies tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a two-run home run to extend their lead to 3-0.
Seventh Inning
- Brie Michelli led off the seventh by reaching on a throwing error and then stealing second.
- Taylor Waters then singled, putting runners at the corners with nobody out.
- Two batters later, Taylor Hartman knocked in Michelli with a groundout to get the Tars on the board, but they couldn't push across any more runs as the Huskies won the opener, 3-1.
Game 2 – Rollins 6, Bloomsburg 0
In game two,
Grace Germer was 2-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, and two runs scored, while
Taylor Hartman was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and three RBIs.
Emily MacMullen started, tossing three shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out four.
Reese Twiggs (3-1) got the win in relief, pitching two no-hit innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Germer led off the game with a bunt single and then raced around to third on a groundout.
- Taylor Waters then walked and stole second, putting two in scoring position with one out.
- Two batters later, Hartman delivered a two-run single to make it 2-0 Tars.
- Sarah Young then laced a single up the middle, and when the center fielder bobbled the ball, Hartman was able to score to increase the lead to 3-0.
Second Inning
- Rollins batted around in the second, beginning with a leadoff walk to Olivia Alvarez and an infield single from Kaeli Zahradnik.
- Germer then hit into a fielder's choice that moved Alvarez to third, and Germer immediately stole second.
- Michelli hit a comebacker to the pitcher, who elected to try to get Alvarez at third, but failed, loading the bases with one out.
- Waters poked a single to right to score Alvarez, and Germer was able to trot home after the throw got away from the catcher, making it a 5-0 game.
- Worrell then coaxed a walk and Hartman followed that with a base on balls, scoring Michelli to make it 6-0.
Seventh Inning
- Keivana Durand came on to pitch the seventh and she was dominant, striking out the side to close out the 6-0 win.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will hit the road for the first time since February 24 as they travel down to Boca Raton for a three-game series at Lynn this weekend. Game one is set for 3 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
