WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 1, 2024) - Men's tennis picked up their seventh win of the year while remaining undefeated in a 4-0 win against Tiffin on Friday.
The day started with a wild set of matches on the doubles court. Rollins struck first when
Efe Comu/
Nico de Giacomo ousted Colomb/Driesner 6-2. The Dragons got revenge on court one however as Gurtner/Telford took down the Tars tandem of
Luke Quaynor/
Richard Stoiberer by a count of 6-3. That put all eyes on court two where an extra effort was needed. In the end,
Guillermo Castaneda/
Charlie Putrino won in a tiebreak against Fonga/Weaver 7-6 (5).
Singles play did not go the distance as the Dragons opted to wave the white flag after Rollins clinched the match by winning the first three courts. The first to finish was Putrino on court six as he dispatched Matthew Weaver 6-1, 6-0. Next was the freshman de Giacomo with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Matthew Telford. The day then wrapped up on court two where Quaynor outlasted Michael Gurtner 6-4, 6-2.
With their two wins, de Giacomo (6-0) and Putrino (5-0) remain undefeated in singles play this season.
Next up for the Tars is a home match against Charleston on Monday, March 4. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
