FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 1, 2024) - Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 6-3 win over Rollins on Friday. The loss drops Rollins to 6-7 on the year, and 1-3 in the SSC.
The long ball put Rollins in a hole in the bottom of the first as J Wachs blasted a solo shot, and teammate B Pena followed suit with a two-run shot two batters later.
The Tars were able to fight back in the second. With two outs, Rollins loaded the bases with a walk, single, and hit by pitch.
Jose Perez then singled into right field to bring in
Jack Herring and
Matthew Farner.
Oscar Murray was up next and delivered a base hit to center that scored Demaurys Rodriguez to tie the game at three.
Nova Southeastern was able to answer back immediately in the bottom half. A walk, hit by pitch, and single brought in the first run. After a walk to load the bases, a wild pitch scored a second run. The scoring for the game would then finish when a ground out plated one more for the Sharks, making it 6-3.
Rollins had runners on the corner in the third, but left them both stranded.
Jacob Burr was called on to relieve starter
Edward Berry, and struck out two right away.
Burr would add two more strikeouts in the fourth, two more in the fifth, one in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth to finish the night with a career-high ten.
Unfortunately, Rollins would not truly threaten in any of the final six innings, and would fall by the 6-3 score.
Chris Sparber had two hits to lead the offense, while Perez had two batted in.
These two teams will square off again on Saturday in game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
