DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 23, 2024) - A pair of runs and a complete game from pitcher
Ashley Worrell is all the Rollins Tars needed in their SSC win over Embry-Riddle on Friday night. The victory pushes the Tars' record to 6-4, 1-3 SSC while the Eagles drop to 6-6 on the year.
After a quiet first, Worrell led off the second with a single. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and to third on a
Taylor Hartman single.
Chloe Bauer was called on to pinch run from there, and she was promptly brought in on a
Claire Long single.
In the third,
Grace Germer manufactured another run with her speed. She led off with a single, stole second, stole third, and scored on a
Brie Michelli sac fly.
From there, Worrell took over. At one point, from the third to the sixth, she retired twelve Eagles in a row. Things got interesting in the seventh when the leadoff hitter singled and moved to third on an error. Four batters later, a single through the left side brought in the run and had the tying run no second. However, Worrell buckled down and struck out the last batter to end the game.
Her final line read seven innings, five hits, zero earned runs, one walk and eight strikeouts. On offense, Long added two hits to her season total, while Germer stayed perfect on the year in steals with her two swipes.
The two teams will wrap their series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
