Ninth-Ranked Tars Defeat No. 18 Embry-Riddle, 5-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 21, 2024) – The ninth-ranked Rollins men's tennis team faced its first top-25 opponent of the season on Wednesday, and the Tars passed the test with a 5-2 win at No. 18 Embry-Riddle. The victory pushes Rollins to 3-0, 1-0 in SSC play, while the Eagles fall to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in conference matches.


COACH'S QUOTES: "Always solid to go in to Daytona and come out in on top over the gritty and motivated squad at Embry-Riddle," Head Coach Jay Friedman said. "Our guys did a solid job of staying the course and making adjustments at key moments. Looking forward to Friday with another extremely well-coached team in Bates."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles Singles
  • Embry-Riddle evened the match with a win on court six, but Castaneda quickly put Rollins back in front with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
  • The Tars went up 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court three by de Giacamo.
  • Comu got the clinching point for Rollins with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.
  • The Eagles scored their second point with a win on court two before Stoiberer closed out the match with a hard-fought three-set win on court four, 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4).
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back in action on Friday, February 23, when they host Bates College at 2 p.m.
