Tars Set Season High Scoring Effort in Win

Rollins defeated Webber 93-50 on Monday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 16, 2024) - The offense was clicking for women's basketball on Monday night as they cruised to a 93-50 win over the Webber Warriors. The win pushes Rollins to 6-5 on the season.

Rollins set the tone early, scoring the first five points of the game, and then jumping out to a 17-2 lead. The Tars instituted a full court press that befuddled the Warrior ballhandlers, leading to numerous turnovers and transition points. When Caroline Swartz knocked down a buzzer beater to wrap up the first period, the Tars were up 26-11.

Things slowed down for both teams in the second quarter. Rollins didn't score until three minutes in, but they were still able to rack up 20 points. Emily McIntosh led the way by knocking down three three-pointers. Webber added two late free throws to make it a 46-26 game at halftime.

The third quarter was probably the best basketball that the Tars have played all season. Rollins was 11-23 from the floor (48%), but an impressive 7-11 (64%) from three. Kaitlyn Sanders was absolutely cooking, scoring sixteen straight Rollins points in the middle of the frame. She did it in every possible way, knocking down threes, hitting pull-up jumpers, and also finishing a nice three-point play at the rim. Her effort helped the Tars take a 78-34 advantage in to the fourth.

The final frame saw the reserves gain valuable time on the court as the freshmen class stepped up to the opportunity. Emma Steidle set a career-high in points, hitting three threes. Zai Mitchell was just shy of a double-double, collecting nine points and nine rebounds. Anna Kimball ripped down eight rebounds, most of them coming in the fourth. Paris Triplett led the Tars in boards with ten of her own. Rollins allowed only six points in the fourth quarter, and cruised to a 93-50 win.

Sanders led the offense with 19 total points and also added a pair of blocks and two steals. McIntosh was next up with 14 points. Thirteen different Tars scored a basket in the game.

The 93 points scored by Rollins is the most scored in a game since November 15, 2017 in a win over Florida Tech.

The ladies will enjoy their holiday break before returning to action on Saturday, January 4 at Tampa.
