Tars Fall to Top-Seed Knights in SSC Championship

Lynn defeated Rollins 2-0 on Sunday afternoon

BOCA RATON, Fla. (November 17, 2024) - Men's soccer fought hard, but could not hold in the second half against #1 Lynn, falling to the Knights in the SSC Championship game 2-0 on Sunday. Rollins now stands at 10-6-1 on the year, while Lynn remains unbeaten at 15-0-2.

The two top offenses in the conference squared off for the championship on Sunday, but saw a defensive minded approach from both sides in the first half. The Tars did not manage a shot on goal, and the Knights only had two, both of which were saved by Jabari Gray

Following the 0-0 halftime break, Lynn changed the scoreboard in the 52nd minute. Following a Tar free kick that was caught by keeper Luca Clavero, his boot found its way to Luan Barroso Rennstich. After working through the Rollins defense, he dropped a pass to Fabian Vyhnalek, whose shot found a hole in the bottom left corner of the net to put Lynn up 1-0.

From there, the game exploded into a full-on scrap. A total of ten yellow cards were handed out in the second half, with each team receiving five.

Rollins only took two shots on goal in the second half, one each from Pedro and Jorge Lameiras. Lynn then put the game away with a goal from Dominik N'gatie off a feed from Luis Kiefer.

Gray did all he could in goal for the Tars, recording eight saves while dealing with seven Lynn corners.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Rollins, who turned their season around after starting 4-5. Hopefully their hot streak will be enough to earn them an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The selection show will take place at 7:00 pm on Monday night.
