SAINT LEO, Fla. (October 22, 2024) – An impressive final round on Tuesday boosted
Carla Alvarez into the Top 5, and helped the Rollins Tars to a sixth-place finish at the Saint Leo Invitational. The two-day, three-round event was held at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Rollins received three very strong rounds on Monday morning, with Alvarez leading the charge. She used four birdies to finish with a 71 (-1), putting her near the top of the individual board. Right on her heels were teammates
Megan Docherty and
Elizabeth Kondal, who each carded an even par 72. Freshman
Lena Durette rounded out the scoring with an 80, giving Rollins a 295.
In the afternoon session, Alvarez once again led the team scorecard with an even par round that included four birdies. The next three scores on the team card were an identical 74, thanks to the efforts of Docherty, Durette, and
Sarah Knitter. Docherty collected four birdies, while Durette and Knitter accounted for three each. The Tars score of 294 had them sitting in sixth after day one.
The third round on Tuesday morning saw nearly flawless golf from Alvarez. She opened the day with a birdie on one, would collect three more in the round, and also add twelve pars to finish the day at 70 (-2). Durette and Knitter matched their second round efforts with 74 each, while Docherty checked in with a 76. Rollins' 294 in round three was the fourth-best team effort on Tuesday.
The Tars finished with an 883 (+19), good for sixth overall. Anderson University took the trophy with an impressive 852 (-12), led by individual champion Aly Francis (209, -7). Alvarez finished in a five-way tie for fifth with her 213 (-3).
Rollins will wrap up their fall schedule on November 3-4 when they host the Legends Invitational at Championsgate Golf Club in Orlando. The tournament will be played on Sunday/Monday to keep Tuesday open for Election Day.
