WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 16, 2024) - Women's soccer suffered a tough loss as the the Eckerd Tritons fought back from two deficits to steal a 3-2 win. With the loss, Rollins drops to 6-2-1 (3-1 SSC), while Eckerd improves to 2-3-3 (1-2 SSC).
Everything was going the Tars' way in the first half, including the first goal of the game. In the thirteenth minute,
Lizzie Hill intercepted a Triton pass, and moved the ball to
Kayla Park. After a quick touch, Park placed a perfect pass at the feet of a streaking
Briyah Drayton, who blasted the ball past the keeper to put the Tars up 1-0.
Fast forward to the second half in the 59th minute when Kendall Drummond ripped a shot off the crossbar. The rebound hit a Rollins defender, landed at the feet of Amy Woodhead, and then ended up near Natalie Rudman who scored the equalizer.
Rollins responded quickly, taking a 2-1 lead just three minutes later.
Lexie Cooper moved swiftly down the right side of the field and placed a through ball near the box. Hill put a touch on the ball by sliding towards the goal, and Drayton was able to bang home the rebound for her second goal of the game.
Eckerd did not falter, and had an answer of their own just two minutes later on a lovely strike from Drummond. They took the lead in the 83rd minute on a pass from Drummond to Frija Aflenzer, making the final score of 3-2.
Rollins outshot Eckerd 13-7, with five on goal to the Tritons' three. They also dominated the corner kick battle, 9-2, but could not capitalize.
The Tars will look to bounce back on Saturday night when they host the Lynn Fighting Knights at Cahall-Sandspur Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
