Hat Tricks and Treats

Rollins defeated Eckerd 6-2 on Wednesday evening

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 16, 2024) - Men's soccer put together a stellar effort on Wednesday against the Eckerd Tritons, securing a 6-2 win behind monster games from Mikkel Fodstad, Pedro Lameiras, and Jorge Lameiras. The win moves Rollins to 4-4 (2-2 SSC) on the year while the Tritons fall to 1-6-1 (0-3 SSC).

Rollins took the early lead in the fifth minute when Pedro Lameiras fed his older brother, Jorge, with a picture-perfect corner kick over the box. The elder was able to spear the ball out of mid-air, leading to a quick first goal.

The Tars then dominated possession and most of the first half. Their aggressive play on both sides of the field led to a second score late in the period. Pedro controlled the ball at midfield, and delivered a beauty of a through ball to Mikkel Fodstad who connected on a left-footed brace.

Followinf the halftime break, Eckerd came out with a fire in their bellies. They connection of Luciano Rodriguez and Samuel Musungale scored twice in a span of 92 seconds to tie the game.

Undeterred, Rollins had an answer a few moments later. Ben Burgess sent a ball halfway across the field to a streaking Lameiras. He took the ball to the baseline, and once again found Fodstad, whose quick feet led to his second goal of the game.

Less than a minute later, Fodstad completed the hat trick on yet another feed from Lameiras, executing a beautiful spin and lightning-fast shot to put Rollins up 4-2.

The brothers would connect once more in the 62nd minute. After Pedro came away with a loose ball near midfield, he shot a lead pass to Jorge, who put one touch on the ball, and then landed his second goal of the game.

Rollins would strike once more in the 84th minute when Tommy Link tapped in a ball that had bounced off the Eckerd keeper for his first career goal.

Eckerd actually outshot Rollins 18-14, but the Tars won the battle of shots on frame, 10-8. In addition, Jabari Gray recorded six saves in goal.

The five assists for Pedro Lameiras are the most in an SSC game this season, and give him a team and conference-high seven for the season. Fodstad's hat trick is the first for the Tars this year, and he is now tied with Jorge Lameiras for the tean lead in goals with five.

Rollins will need a similar effort for their next game this Saturday when they travel to Boca Raton to play the #1 Lynn Fightning Knights. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
