Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Streak Reaches Seven with Road Win at Barry

Rollins defeated Barry 60-54 on Wednesday evening

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (January 3, 2024) - Women's basketball extended their win streak to seven games with an SSC road win at Barry on Wednesday, 60-54. With the win, the Tars now stand at 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the SSC. Barry falls to 6-6, 1-3 in the SSC.

Neither team was particularly hot from the field in the first quarter, but the Tars' defense in particular was impressive, limiting the Bucs to 2-16 from the floor (12.5%). Seven different Rollins players scored in the first frame as the Tars jumped out to an early 15-8 lead.

The second quarter was a complete flip of the script as both teams found their stroke on offense. Rollins was efficient at 9-17 from the field for 22 points, while Barry countered with four threes and 16 points. Rollins worked their way into good position down low, converting eight of their nine field goals from the paint. Kaitlyn Sanders led the way with six points in the quarter, and helped the Tars to a 37-24 halftime advantage.

Barry opened the third with a 7-0 run as they attempted to claw back into the game. After Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez put the first two points of the quarter on the board for Rollins, the defense once again stepped up, holding the Bucs scoreless for more than three minutes. Barry did not give up though, and used 54% shooting and three threes to pull the score to 53-43.

Both rims had a lid on them in the final frame, with the two team combining to shoot just 5-25 (20%). Barry pulled within seven early on, but a clutch three from Grace Alfieri pushed the lead back to double digits. Rollins would only connect once more from the field in the quarter on a Sanders jumper, but their defense was strong enough to hang on for the 60-54 win.

Irizarry-Perez led the way for Rollins with a double double, scoring ten points to go with 14 rebounds. Sanders added 13 off the bench.

Next up for Rollins is a big road matchup at #9 Eckerd on Saturday. The Tars and Tritons will tipoff at 2pm from Saint Petersburg.
