DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 20, 2024) – The Rollins women's basketball team dropped its third straight contest on Saturday, falling to Embry-Riddle, 73-63. The Tars are now 9-3 on the season, 6-3 in conference, while the Eagles improve to 13-3, 7-2 in SSC play.
Ajalon Gillard led the Tars with 17 points and added five rebounds, while
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 14 points and a team-leading four assists.
Lucy Leen chipped in with 10 points and five boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Gillard drilled a three on the first possession of the game and the Tars pushed their lead to 8-3 with 5:58 to go in the opening quarter.
- Embry-Riddle closed the period on a 6-0 run over the final 3:20, giving the Eagles a 14-13 lead after 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
- ERAU scored the first 13 points of the second quarter to pull out to a 27-13 advantage at the 5:59 mark.
- A 7-0 burst from the Tars trimmed the deficit to seven (29-22), but the Eagles increased their advantage to 35-24 before the halftime break.
Third Quarter
- The lead grew as large as 16 (40-24), shrunk to as little as seven (46-39), but by the end of the third quarter it was right back at 11 (50-39) as the two sides each scored 15 points in the frame.
Fourth Quarter
- A triple from Erin Leigh got Rollins back to within six points (62-56) with 3:29 to play, but that was as close as the Tars would get, with ERAU holding on for a 73-63 win.
