Tars Trounce Mocs on Senior Day, 13-0

Rollins hit three home runs in the game

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 29, 2023) – The Rollins softball got some solid pitching and three home runs on Saturday to blow out visiting Florida Southern, 13-0 in five innings, to celebrate Senior Day. The win gives the Tars the series win as well, two games to one, and improves Rollins' season mark to 31-15 overall, 15-12 in conference play. The Mocs conclude their season at 25-25, 12-18 in SSC games.

Ashley Worrell went 2-for-2 with two home runs and six RBIs to lead the offense, while Morgan Lebeda chipped in with a pinch-hit, three-run home run as well. Claire Long was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Jaden Walker was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Senior Ashley Troutman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in her final game at Rollins Softball Stadium, while fellow senior Taylor Waters finished her home career by going 1-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch, stolen base, and run scored.

Emily MacMullen (17-10) got the win, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out two. Worrell pitched a scoreless fifth inning, issuing a lone walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
  • The Tars scored in every inning on Saturday, beginning with a two-out, solo home run off the bat of Worrell to take an early 1-0 lead.
Second Inning
  • Rollins broke it open in the second, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs.
  • Waters led off with a single and Kaeli Zahradnik followed with a base on balls.
  • After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners up, Waters was able to steal home on a missed suicide squeeze attempt that got away from the catcher.
  • Long then singled in Zahradnik to make it 3-0.
  • After a walk to Emma Gipple, Troutman reached on an infield single to load the bases with one out.
  • Grace Germer was then hit by a pitch, forcing Long in to score.
  • After an FSC pitching change, Worrell launched a grand slam to left for her second homer of the game, doubling the lead to 8-0.
Third Inning
  • Troutman singled home Walker and Worrell picked up her sixth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the third, extending the lead to 10-0.
Fourth Inning
  • Lebeda came on to pinch hit with two on and two out in the fourth, and she crushed an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a three-run home run, pushing the Tars' advantage to 13-0.
Fifth Inning
  • Worrell came on to pitch the fifth in relief of MacMullen, and after issuing a leadoff walk, she set down the Mocs in order, ending the game early via the eight-run rule at 13-0.
