BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 2, 2023) - After a tough loss at #4 Barry yesterday, the Rollins Tars bounced back and battled to a 4-3 win at #15 Lynn on Sunday. The Tars now stand at 14-3, with a 5-1 record in SSC play.
Lynn jumped out to a quick advantage in doubles play by winning court three. Rollins tied things up on court two when
Mikkel Baumann/
Guillermo Castaneda outlasted Diego Gonzalez/Gianmarco Amatiste by a 7-5 final. That put eyes on court one, which ended up being a wild one. In the end,
Efe Comu/
Luke Quaynor managed a 7-6 (4) tiebreaker victory over Ray Chavez/Haktan Garayev.
The Fighting Knights grabbed three points and the lead by winning on singles six, five, and four which put Rollins in a deep hole.
Luke Quaynor was able to bring the Tars back with a big win on number two, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Rollins then knotted things up at three points apiece when Castaneda bounced back on court three with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Yaron Guberman.
That put all the pressure on court one between the top men for each squad. Comu took an early lead with a 6-3 win in set one. Gonzalez bounced back with a 6-4 win in set two, forcing a third and final set with the match on the line. Thankfully for the Tars, their team leader played tough and came out on top with a 6-3 win to clinch the victory.
From head coach Jay Friedman:
"Big effort today after a hard match yesterday. We were down early in the doubles, and kept fighting and chipping away. Baumann and Castañeda really seized the opportunity to flip the score around late, and in really excellent fashion. In the singles, we just don't give in with this group and it showed! Huge effort all around, I'm really proud of each and every guy today. That was a tough Sunday, and they just kept fighting! Even more so, we did it with the utmost class representing Rollins College and ourselves well."
Rollins' next action will come at home on Friday, April 7 when they face the #6 (NAIA) Southeastern Fire. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
